The Lens Men and The Eye Site Completes Southeast CDC Public Assistance Project with Bedok Eye Screening

Beginning in March 2008, The Lens Men and sister boutique The Eye Site began a partnership with Southeast CDC to provide free eye screening services during public assistance review sessions for underprivileged elderly and residents. In total, we screened have screened 305 patients and donated 120 pairs of brand new spectacles for distance and near vision.

October 4, 2008 —

At the Bedok Multiservice Centre for Elderly, a rehabilitation centre run by the Salvation Army, we extended our eye screening services to patients who came here for physiotherapy and other treatments. Although they are not public assistance recipients, many live alone on subsidised incomes and little savings and were recommended to receive eyeglass donations if necessary.

The Lens Men - Parkway Parade optician Sam Tan and The Eye Site optician Andy Tan screened 56 patients, 10 of which were found to be in need of spectacles, some for both reading and short-sightedness. As we wrap up a very successful year of partnering with Southeast CDC, we're looking forward to bringing the Eye Care-a-Van to more public assistance review sessions next year!
