The Lens Men Bring Eye Care to Chai Chee
The Lens Men visited Chai Chee for the first time as part of the ongoing partnership with Southeast CDC to bring much-needed eye care to needy senior citizens, providing free screenings for 66 elderly people over two visits.
August 14, 2008 — At the eye screening at the Block 23 Kaki Bukit Seniors Activity Centre, The Lens Men - The Centrepoint optometrist Kang Hean Young and The Lens Men - Parkway Parade optician Dan Toh discovered the highest percentage of low-income senior citizens who have gone without corrected vision -- more than half the patients screened required spectacles for distance and/or near vision. In addition, four patients needed further referral to polyclinics to diagnose detected cataracts and pterygiums.
We also found that many of these elderly attributed their poor eyesight to old age and did not realise that it could be corrected.
At the Block 31 Sunlove Kampong Chai Chee Neighbourhood Link eye screening, The Lens Men - Parkway Parade optician Sam Tan and The Eye Site optician Andy Tan thankfully did not find as many elderly people suffering from the lack of proper eye care -- we prescribed a total of just nine pairs of reading and distance vision spectacles for nine senior citizens, and only one cataract case was found. We're glad to donate their free spectacles, together with our business partner Essilor Singapore. Many thanks to Ning Kwong Optical for the use of their optical machines to aid in the screening!
