The Lens Men Keep The Charity Screenings Going!

As word gets around of our desire to help needy Singaporeans with their eyecare, we keep getting more requests to host charity screenings. In the last month, we screened close to 70 elderly in conjunction with the Southeast CDC and dispensed more than 40 pairs of spectacles.

July 11, 2008 —

At recent screenings at the Moral Seniors Activity Centre at Kaki Bukit on June 16 and at the Good Life Centre at Marine Parade on July 10, The Lens Men opticians Sam Tan and Dan Toh and The Eye Site optometrist Roger Lim spearheaded eye check-ups for senior citizens receiving financial assistance from the Southeast CDC's Comcare program. Sadly, they found that many patients suffered from cataracts both detected and undetected, continuing a disturbing pattern in the lack of knowledge among this demographic on how to best take care of their vision. Many had not realised that the blurry vision they experienced could be treated -- they simply attributed the ailment to old age and accepted it as part of growing old.

Still, there was good news -- many senior citizens in the Bedok North area were found to enjoy perfect or near-perfect vision well into their 70s and 80s! There were more Marine Parade elderly who require spectacles, but mostly for reading and near vision. Thanks to your support and the help of our business partners Essilor Singapore and Ning Kwong Optical, we'll keep making sure as many low-income Singaporeans' eye health are treated to the best of our ability!
